Screwfix sell a number of cambuckle and ratchet straps. I have used their cambuckle ones to tie down sheets of 18mm MDF to the van roofbars. They are blooming strong.

See here...http://www.screwfix.com/search?search=straps

There are loads on Fleabay too...http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_t...raps&_nkw=cambuckle+straps&_sacat=0&_from=R40

If you don't need ratchets, go to your local motorbike shop and ask if they have any straps that come transporting new motorbikes they are going to throw away. I used to have a bunch of them from a Triumph dealer, 1" wide, fairly soft and just a sprung cam to hold them in place, but perfect as luggage straps and considered disposable by the shop. That is presuming they still use that method of course...
