(Well, that photo is not of me, but I was there, in the front of a real wood and canvas biplane, flying it! He didn't let me take off or land, but there I was, doing the Biggles stuff, complete with leather helmet and goggles! Haven't forgotten too much after 30 years...)

I was given a trial flight in a biplane a few years ago. The instructor sat at the back. The cockpit came up no higher than the bottom of my rib cage. I was absolutely terrified for most of the flight and ,when given the controls, only wanted to fly it straight and level. I would love to try it a bit more.

That's what the RAF painted on the tails - it has roundels under the wings...

Isn't 'roundel' a wonderful word?

Why have a static model when you can have a flying one! This is the Mick Reeves kit, 117" wingspan. Not for beginners. Models are considerably harder to fly than the full size but are very rewarding.
