Lovely to see a newbie out enjoying the sun, however.....

1)Don't overtake another cyclist because he's eased past you whilst you're clearly struggling against the admittedly strong wind, then weave in front of him and immediately slow down because you're too knackered to keep your speed up.

2)It's rude and dangerous to do this three times in 200 yards.

3)Don't pull in front of the clearly much faster cyclist when he's waiting at traffic lights and then weave about all over the road whilst you pull away on the green light causing him to take evasive action.

4)Don't then expect said cyclist to engage you in polite conversation.

5)Don't filter down the inside (especially of white van man when he's indicating left at a junction) even if the lights are red at the moment.

6)Don't run red lights at that junction ever again. You were lucky today.

Please feel free to ask me about any other cycling matter in the future that you may be curious about. I will be happy to help you stay alive if you do me the same courtesy.

Here endeth the lesson.

lol. oh so many of those people. Point 3 is certinaly one which gets me. Or that you overtake them early on, then while you wait at red, they just sail right through the red light and keep going, then you have to overtake them agian, and the same happens. Max so far is 5times with same guy. Makes you laugh as you just free wheel past them as they huff and puff along a straight.

You should have dealt with #1 first time it happened. When you overtake him put the hammer down and get some distance between yourself and him, if he is struggling into the wind then he won't be able to close you down and you'll be shot of him.

Alternatively, and if it's not going to be dangerous, speed up and keep level with him as he attempts to overtake. When he gets the panicked look in his eye just say "See! Bloody annoying isn't it." and the put the hammer down.

#3 is depressingly common on my commute. It must be an unwritten rule that the slowest cyclists must barge through everyone else to the front of the queue at the lights.

4). Classic. Reminds me of the motorist who was reading a map on the steering wheel while weaving all over the place in front of me, then at the traffic lights had the nerve to ask me directions!

lol, maybe i should be clearer. I like the idea of when they try and overtake you stay with them, let them pant and get worn out then look over, smile and just pull away at speed. had a few one sided races from the lights with mountin bikes who think they can pull infront and try and outrun you. funny watching their little legs peddel furiously as you just catch them up and glide past with this look of, hmm, "don't even think about it" on ones face

1)Thought he'd got the hint the 2nd time I'd overtaken him, then I had the traffic lights against me:sad:

2)An excellent idea I shall put into practise the next time it happens. Summer's almost here after all. Bound to be another opportunity etc etc.

I think this guy was around here yesterday too !
Had a very similar experiance involving :
Road Biker Overtaking me as I cruise towards Red Lights, Speed through lights, wobble up hill (get lower gears or use that momentum gained by running the red lights to get up the hill quicker) undercut traffic and nearly get hit while some car pulls across as your in her blind spot undertaking at speed.

here's one from last night. Women from africa who could not drive, pulls out from junction infront of cyclist, he stops to give her a piece of his mind, while she is still pulling out the junction not looking and nearly into me. she then proceeds to drive on the opposite side of the road into oncoming traffic, overtaking about 10cars waiting at red lights, to turn right into a side road. couldnt belive my eyes
