who was trying to get round the monstrous northside roundabout, who incurred a barrage of abuse from a sweaty pie eating M/C courier..............

Hope you read this because I caught him up & pointed out how bang-out-of-order he was.

By the way, I'm riding a scooter atm - At about 8.50am this poor girl was trying to get across from the r/about exit by the London College of Printing heading North. I was dead behind this pillock who virtually AIMED at her and blew his horn, slowed up(he was going very quick) to insult her. Everyone heading north from the New Kent Road slows and picks their way thought the cyclists/buses/taxis etc and generally exercises courtesy and respect ........except ol' matey.
I was quite upset for the young lady and chose to catch him up and had a lengthy discussion with himall the way to Parliament square!

My angle was that he was bang out of order for
1. going too fast for the situation of slow moving traffic
2. Being discourteous/respectful for other road users
3. Being abusive and bullying
4. *

His reasons were
1. She was a danger to other road users(actually mate, she was in the correct lane position and already been on the roundabout before we let loose from the traffic lights joining it)
2. Slow moving traffic shouldn't mix with fast traffic - she should use a train.

Anyway - i just wanted to express that not all scooter riders are tw@ts (I felt bad that he helped spread the hate held for other PTWers) when really we're not all that bad and there's at least one who looks out for cyclists.

Guess I'm just frustrated as I have to Scooter to work atm and am jealous of all the cyclists riding to work.

Take care out there

Well done Wobbles!

With a bit of luck, he'll end up as road kill, or keeling over from a heart attack. You've got to have faith in karma...

I must say, from what I've read on here, I'm never going near the Elephant and Castle in anything less than a tank!

Nice one Wobbles. You London commuters get my utmost respect; i was terrified going from Victoria to Marylebone last week after the Fnrttc, and that was on a Saturday morning!

I wish there was a way to eliminate this belief that some have that they are entitled to punish those that ride/drive sensibly and get in the way of those that don't.

Exactly, I was appalled that this idiot thought that just because she was going slower than him automatically meant that he had right of way. I did point this out to him.

Funny how normally when I engage with another road user and have a disagreement it always leaves a bad taste in my mouth but this time I felt that much better. Maybe because I was a third party? Who knows but at least I said something.

Spread the love

London is actually cycling paradise, despite many of the tales on here. I love riding in London, mind you I love riding in the country too.

Blimey! Your views are getting a bit more militant these days Arch!;)

In saying that, just the other day I saw a cyclist being a bit of an idiot, on the pavement, later joining the road and red light jumping. I caught up with him a little later just as you have to come off the road (on a very short segregated cycle lane that always has mud on it). Oh how I tittered when he slid off his bike and got his hands and trousers (work clothes) a little dirty! Tee hee!

back to the OP. Good for you for making your point!

I certainly don't. I wouldn't wish that on anyone....have you ever witnessed a fatal road accident Arch?

Nicely put Wobbles and well done for catching up and letting him know. Despite his protest, I think your approach will have a more positive effect for everyone than wishing him a short future under the wheels of some HGV.

Riding in rush hour can be a pain due to motorists getting stressed and wanting to get somewhere quicker. At other times it is really nice, as you say. Great on the weekends.
Knowing the back roads makes a difference as well!

Yesterday a WVM threw something at me out of his window and it hit me on the arm, I wish there had been someone around to chase him down. Twatbags, the lot of them.

(Yes, it was my first projectile and it bothered me. It didn't really hurt, it just bothers me that someone saw me up ahead, fished around in his McDonald's bag-covered cesspit of a cab to find something to throw, then was busier thinking about aiming at me as he passed than he was thinking about the road.)

True - I heard him 'muttering' (to no-one in particular) a few minutes earlier about how long some traffic lights were taking to change so knew he was stressed out already......

His parting bit of conversation to me (as if to justify his actions) was to explain he'd been diverted off route from the A2 earlier and needed to make up time. I truly believe that although he didn't exactly have an epiphany moment, our discussion did register a bit as when I was following him I saw him give a couple of cyclists a bit more room.......maybe through gritted teeth, but nevertheless it made me feel I'd done the right thing. Who knows, he may even continue to do it.......

Can't wait to get back cycling to work

Sorry to hear that Taxing. That makes me angry just reading it.
I've never understood it. If you were both walking down the road, or sitting in a restaurant, would he decide he spontaneously needed to throw some refuse at you????
It's the same old Road Food Chain thing......since I've been riding my scooter I get less 'respect' than when i ride my M/bike. Unfortunately cyclists are perceived(by some) as being 'lowest on the food chain' and as such are fair game to abuse at will.
Funny, when I drive my white van(yes, I do own one, oops) I find it possibly one of the most relaxing driving experiences as no-one messes with you and you're almost expected to drive like an arse!! (of course, I drive perfectly....honest). It's an experience when other WVMs let you out at junctions an give way.....Maybe WVs are highest on the food chain?!

And no, I've never, ever chucked anything at anyone.

I think I've had more 'incidents' with WVM as a pedestrian than as a cyclist, although I've been a pedestrian longer. Had meaningless garble shouted at me, had tea/coffee chucked at me (none of it has ever hit) and had engines revved as I've walked over crossings in front of them.

Did have a weird one on the bike last night. Waiting at a traffic lights about 9pm a wvm pulls up next to me - I'm in primary in one lane so he's sitting between two lanes, then he slowly creeps forwards over the line into the crossing while the light is still red then drives off just as the light turns green. No idea what that was all about.

Yeah pedestrians are the lowest in the food chain...I can't remember the last time a car let me cross but why should I be surprised?
