I certainly don't. I wouldn't wish that on anyone....have you ever witnessed a fatal road accident Arch?

Nicely put Wobbles and well done for catching up and letting him know. Despite his protest, I think your approach will have a more positive effect for everyone than wishing him a short future under the wheels of some HGV.

Well I'm sorry, but I'm fed up of people being rude, inconsiderate and downright dangerous, just because they're in a hurry, or having a bad day, and oh, so much more important that anyone else. He didn't seem to care much for the safety of that lady cyclist, according to Wobbles, so why should I care about his safety?

I take back the roadkill bit - not fair to inflict the guilt on someone else. But I'll keep the heart attack. With an attitude like that, his blood pressure won't be good anyway.

Maybe Wobbles' talk had some effect, I hope so. But I'm not holding my breath.

True - I heard him 'muttering' (to no-one in particular) a few minutes earlier about how long some traffic lights were taking to change so knew he was stressed out already......

Ooops I do that! Normally it's how the same traffic lights which catch me day after day week after week month after month...you get the drift.

TBH I sympthathise with your sentiment. There are a***holes out there wishing this on everyone else, yet acting like plebs. It seems only fitting to have a bout of schadenfreude I think they call it.

Yesterday a WVM threw something at me out of his window and it hit me on the arm, I wish there had been someone around to chase him down.

I can't imagine what such a person must be thinking to do that. Apart from the anger I would feel I would be desperate to catch up to ask the simple question of "why"? I wonder if it was an anti cyclist thing or just a general mindless act. I am so angry about it even from here. Couldn't you get a number or company name?

I haven't cycled in cities for decades, is it something that happens very often? (I don't mean just to you taxing or only in Hull)

And respect to Wobbles for taking the trouble and potential personal risk to have a word with the other bully. That is more of a case of the usual selfish driving that I can get my head around. I get plenty of that. I doubt if I could have remained as calm and reasoned as you appear to have done. I always mean too. Not least because it is likely to be more effective but also because if I provoked a violent reaction I am no threat to anyone. Allergic to both violence and pain. ;) Not boasting or proud of it but I have got away with quite a few outbursts so far. But I think there is an element of realisation of their errors when their isolation bubble is burst and they are confronted with them...energeticaly.

I may well come unstuck one day but I can't see anyone opening a door and getting out to catch me before I was long gone. Always one clip in, on compression stroke and a good arms length from the door.

I didn't manage to, the company name wasn't on the back of the van, there was just an 0800 number which I didn't catch, and I only memorised the last half of his numberplate. Usually I can remember number plates and telephone numbers, until something like that happens and my memory just goes completely.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I've been cycling for three months now and this is the first time someone has thrown something at me. On my first ride out someone leaned out of a car and grabbed at me (really frightening at the time, even though he didn't manage to touch me), but usually it's just people shouting. Most of the time I don't know what they're saying, it just makes me jump when they do it right by my ear at speed, but once some horrible van driver shouted something disgusting and it really bothered me. Pedestrians try to chat me up too, which is weird but not threatening.

I admire your courage and perseverance.

And despair at the antics of my fellow man.

I know what it's like on the spur of the moment but I think you really should try to be ready, pen in pocket or perhaps camera easy to hand in future. Without wanting to imply the helpless maiden, you are obviously not, a good shout or scream might also be a good idea. Get other people to look. I am sure the police must take it very seriously if you could get id evidence.

Mind you, you might then have the unpleasantness of a court case.

This shouldn't happen. I find the random, pointlessness sickening.

A good shout or scream would get people to look, but they'd be looking at me, the nutter cyclist, while the perpetrator speeds off. I can't think of anything that the police take less seriously than drivers abusing cyclists, it's par for the course, and it would be impossible for me to get evidence without wearing a helmet cam, which I'm not going to do because I don't want to alter my routine in any way because of a few idiots. It's reassuring that there are people like yourself who are disgusted by the rather bizarre behaviour that a lot of city cyclists see daily, but without evidence what can be done? Even if I did get the registration of the van, there's nothing the police can do about one person's report of someone in a van throwing what felt like a conker at her. It'd be my word against theirs.

Agreed. For someone with such hatred inside them, living is a worse punishment than death.

Good point. Especially if they give themsleves an ulcer.
