Today was my last commute

I'm leaving my job tomorrow, after 12 years. I'll be out for a few pints after, so I'm going to get the train.

It was raining cats and dogs.
Going through a back lane I tickled the front brake and the wheel nearly disappeared from under me.
Later I nearly ended up as a bonnet decoration when a car pulled out from a side road (on my right) and the lady driver was so fixated by my knees, she aimed right for them - I still don't know how I missed her.
BUT it was an ace ride, & I loved it. My commute will be one of the few things I miss come the new job on monday.

I've done 20 years of commuting to Waterloo...I wonder when my last commute may be.

Perhaps I will have a celebreation ride on my last commute and do some sort of headboard.Worded,

The Mile End Road 1989-20?? Thankyou all.Goodbye

Or something like that.

I'd really miss commuting by bike, so you have my sympathies. I assume you will be keeping up the riding otherwise?

Good luck on the new job!

It'd be 200 miles each way.

I've bought a van (it's in a previous thread that I was looking for one). When I'm in the office or on site I can take the MTB and the road bike with me - locked in the van, no wheels off or anything. When I'm working from home it'll have to be a spin before breakfast or after work.

The van has a bench seat, so I can fit the boys' bikes, boys and dog in too. We've already had a few runs up to the Whitelee Windfarm - 50 + miles of track and no vehicles - it's ace. On a clear day you can even see the sea.

Need to sign up for l'etape caledonia and then I'll have a target to keep me going!

Tell you what though, I was flying tonight. Maybe being de-mob happy gives you wings!!

What are the paths like at Whitelee Windfarm?
I've not done all of them yet but they're rolled stone - like a landrover track but without the bit of grass in the middle. Once you're a mile away from the visitor centre they're dead quiet and traffic / people free.

It is more rolling / undulating rather than hilly

Between 10 & 5 there are shower facilities and a bike store available by teh visitor centre / cafe.

My kids love it. We've seen deer and grouse up there, and the turbines are just awesome.

Best of luck with the new Job Stig, 200 miles each way is a fair old distance; it must be a cracking job, well done.

Hope you keep pedalling

oops, I just made you sound like a drug dealer:blush:

I'm back. Another new job, this time in Aberdeen, so it's car Monday and Friday and bike Tues - Thurs. If you see someone new heading out to Dyce in the morning - or looking lost in Aberdeen in the afternoon, it could be me
