Greenwoods of Boroughbridge pork pie

After some deliberation and revision of scores as the tasting progressed the cumulative scores from a tasting panel of five. Elsie's equanimity of enthusiasm for all things pie shaped would not have altered the rank orders had she been able to score.

Ist place - Boroughbridge pork pie 159/200
2nd place - Boroughbridge pork, black pudding and pickle 148/200
2nd place - Boroughbridge pork and apple 148/200
4th place - Bedale pork and caramelised onion 136/200
4th place - Boroughbridge pork, mushy pea and mint sauce 136/200
6th place - Bedale pork cheese and pickle 132/200
7th place - Bedale pork and chorizo 129/200
8th place - Bedale pork and cranberry 126/200
9th place - Bedale pork pie 122/200

Cockburns of Bedale's pies were let down by an indifferent crust and sometimes fillings that bordered on bland.

The panel agreed though that a hybrid pie - the crust from a Greenwoods of Boroughbridge pork pie with a Cockburns' pork and chorizo filling would be the perfect combination.

We are all pied out, my guests have left and moderate beer drinking is now taking place accompanied by gale force wind.

Why keep quiet about something so important?

@vernon they look nice and scrummy

Am I the only one unable to see the pictures?

The post got munged by the bulletin board software and I was unable to delete four of the minimised posts. I then revised the remaining post to ressurect the images then they disappeared, hopefully it's all restored to normality.

I wonder how hard it is to make your own pies?

Anything with shortcrust pastry is dead easy. @User14044 and @Hill Wimp will attest to the quality of crust and filling.

Hot water pastry for pork pies is problematic. My first attempt resulted in crusts resembling hard tack biscuits in texture. My second attempt witnessed an explosion which coated the kitchen ceiling cooker, kitchen units, work surface and floor in hot water and molten lard. The ceiling still bears the scars. Third time lucky :okay:.
