Vernon, how you keep your svelte figure after that lot is beyond me.
You could make a fortune from the Vern Diet book.

Would both be greedy?

I've decided to pass but for the record, I have done fish and chips, a chinese and an Indian on top of a gallon of Tetleys when I was a svelte rugby playing undergraduate.

My housemates struggled with the fall out.

After some deliberation and revision of scores as the tasting progressed the cumulative scores from a tasting panel of five. Elsie's equanimity of enthusiasm for all things pie shaped would not have altered the rank orders had she been able to score.

2nd place - Boroughbridge pork and apple 148/200

@Tin Pot this pie book would be a useful addition to your cookbooks. It is marred by the inclusion of quiche and flan recipes but there's some interesting fillings. My exploding pork pie recipe came from it.

I will get around to.using the pie dolly to make some raised pies in the not too distant future.

Anything with shortcrust pastry is dead easy. @User14044 and @Hill Wimp will attest to the quality of crust and filling.

Hot water pastry for pork pies is problematic. My first attempt resulted in crusts resembling hard tack biscuits in texture. My second attempt witnessed an explosion which coated the kitchen ceiling cooker, kitchen units, work surface and floor in hot water and molten lard. The ceiling still bears the scars. Third time lucky :okay:.

Mumsnet's Mother-in-law's corned beef pie is simplicity in itself http://www.mumsnet.com/food/recipe/1639-Corned-beef-pie
Delia Smith's steak and kidney pie recipe is a good one to follow with. http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/main-ingredient/meat/offal/mums-steak-and-kidney-plate-pie.html
I can confirm that Vernons pastry is top quality, the best i have tasted for a long time:okay:
