Corned beef and onion with shortcrust pastry. Having added diced carrot and potato and making too much pastry I had enough material left over to make a small plate pie as well as the pie dish pie. A 50p piece is
included in the pic for scaling.

I sahred the pies with staff on students. Two of the sixth form girls took photos of the uncut pies and SMSed them to their mothers to persuade them to make pies for them. They proclaimed the pie to be even better than the vegan pie I took in the other week and that I was a better cook that their mothers.

Having just managed to start making shortcrust pastry, and the only pies so far being of the mince (non-meat:smile:) variety, one is impressed:thumbsup:. Quick question, do you blind bake the bottom bit of the pie first?

Good luck with the hot water pastry, think I'll leave it for a while yet...

Blind baking is for custard pies and flans i.e. 'wet' fillings that would make the crust soggy if uncooked pastry was used.

Ran out of plates again then, Vernon.:snowball:

Well spotted!

I'll leave the error in the post for the enjoyment of others.

No-one enjoys being a pedant unless there's some fun in it. Give me 100 lines "The ploughman ploughed his weary way home..." ^_^ and a pie.

This could become the seasonal cooking picture thread...come on everyone, post a picture of your creations - NOT your 'reheats'!
I knocked up some macadamia, ginger and coconut cookies early yesterday morning for one of the people in my work Post Office. CycleChat? CycleCook! :snowball:

Excellent looking pies, but 20p pieces are better for scaling. I get all confused with a 50p. They could just be any size at all.
