@Reynard if you can't find cannelloni, an alternative is to buy lasagna sheets.
If fresh, spread the filling then roll them up.
If it's dried lasagna sheets, blanch them first so they can be rolled up.

My mum did a Continental cookery course back in the 60’s and they got them to make Cannelloni using pancakes as I think the only pasta available was Spaghetti.

Now accepting I'm 'careful' with money, what the heck happened to beef joints ?
As usual, shopping on Weds, always make use of the reduced section and ooh, there's a couple beef joints in there !
Normal price £19..reduced to £13. Even at £13, its too big for one meal, too small to split...bugger, I left it.
I mean, as good as £20 for a joint that will feed 5, that's £4 a head before you even start cooking costs and all the other trimmings.

That piece of beef maybe a year and a bit ago was less then a tenner...bladdy hell :sad:

Beef has gone up by between 25 and 50% depending on the cut. Mainly down to demand currently outstripping supply.

The best bit about joints is that you can turn what's left into cold cuts for lunchtime sandwiches. That's what I do. There's nothing better than a cold roast beef sandwich (white bread, butter, a sprinkling of salt), a cold roast pork sandwich or a gammon (ham) sandwich. And if I've got cold cuts, then I don't need to bother about buying ham or pate or whatever.

Certainly, when it comes to ham, it's actually cheaper to buy a gammon and cook it yourself.. And you end up with MUCH nicer ham. Plus you've got the stock for soup.

Besides, I'd much rather have a joint that's too big than one that's too small - the relationship between surface area and volume is a cubed one, and so the smaller the joint, the bigger, proportionally, the surface area, so your meat is more likely to dry out.
