There's a few DIY enthusiasts on here so hope someone might have an answer.

When we flush the toilet in our house, often, but not every time, the cold water tap in the bathroom sink comes on full blast. The hot water is not affected and neither is the cold water tap in the bath itself.

Any ideas?

If the ball valve on the WC cistern shuts off suddenly when the cistern is full, it can set up a pressure wave in the cold water pipework...."water hammer". This might cause a faintly dodgy kitchen tap valve to jump open. This theory will be utter rubbish if the WC and the kitchen tap are both at low pressure, not mains pressure.

Think yourself lucky, in our house if someone flushes the toilet when you are in the shower be prepared to have the skin taken off your back.

The water that gushes out is clean. I think slow motion could be right as I tinkered with the water level gauge in my toilet tank recently to increase the flush length.
