Tonight I fly like the wind

On the way home this evening no hill was a challenge. Flat sections were downhill. Cars stood still as I flew past. Buses were easy meat - three left in my wake. Speed was no effort at all, the bike was as light as a feather and my legs as strong as an ox, and as swift as a gazelle. I arrived home fresh, but having cut a good chunk off my usual commuting time. Records were broken, but sweat wasn't.

Some may say that the spirit of the invisible cyclist was upon me. Some may say that I was using the possessed cycling shoes of a sprint legend. Some may say that my fitness had jumped to another plane, that I had gained super-strength finally from the hours of hard commuting.

Others may point to a very stiff northerly wind this evening. We shall refer to them by the codename "killjoys".

indeed, and as importantly on a Monday with Moday 'I could do this for a living, damn I feel strong' legs

I rode like a train whipping past plodders that seemed to get no benefit from the wind

and rode home very manfully into a stiffish wind, still fast but hard work

I flew like the wind too.

Downhill. Face first. Bicycle underneath me. Bar end jammed in my ribcage.

That's what you get for going on a post-work night ride out to Derwent Valley to Kings Tree and realising too late that you are going downhill on packed ice

Got to love a mode of transport, your opinion of which is polarised by the prevailing wind speed and direction ;)

I spent £600 on my car to get it remapped to get the same effect as a tailwind, and going as fast as you possibly can on the bike cannot get you points and a fine, unlike trying the same in a Saab on the M60....

Six points for 74 in a 50, dry day, no traffic, road used to be seventy but they changed it, will be using the bike more to avoid any more transgressions.
