Are you saying that unless frames are CF they are rubbish?

How do you come to that conclusion, bearing in mind that it would be a 290 lbs rider?

Not sure if you're serious or just joking, but if so - I think what he actually meant was that unless it is a carbon fibre frame, then the weight limit is rubbish - Not the bike itself.

i posted those links because they are the two offered on the bike builder.

so perhaps the better of the two?
In a nutshell, neither considering you're bothered about weight issues. Ask them to knock the price of the wheels off the build, then put it towards some appropriate wheels and stick them on yourself

Must have been an error and it has lots of options for wheels now.

If anyone fancies a look an can tell me the best/cheap wheels I'd appreciate it.

I am in the same situation and I have been told by a bike builder that the expression "too heavy for a bike" is an urban myth. I was using the thinnest wheels possible when I was 27 stones heavy and had no other problems than burst lungs and heart. But my bike was OK with it.

The trick is to buy the new wheels where the wheel bearings is strenghtened. The rear wheel cost £ 90 or so with new chain and gears too as the old gears can be transferred to the new one. The front wheel around £ 70 or so. That's all you need, really.

I am 22 stones and is still getting around on my thin wheels, 1300 miles this year. But I am on a diet though due to trying to add 20-30 years to my lifespan/to be a b******* nuisance to you all for further 30 years.

Just got an email from ribble saying 110kg max.

So 242lb. That's a massive spanner in the works.

I'd have 0% body fat and have to lose muscle for that weight.

Go to another manufacturer and purchase from them because I know for a fact that other bikes can take 300-400 lbs without any problems (although the user's heart will cease to be before the bike ceases to be). I got a Raleigh steel frame and that is not the problem on my bike. The wheels is. I will get new wheels and that is me set up for many miles on the roads.

Even though Ribble advertise custom built wheels in reality they don't cater for the larger cyclist when it comes to wheels. All the wheels on the custom bike builder part are low spoke wheels and not ultimately suitable, certainly for me anyway.

Get a pair of Mavic Open Pro rims built on some decent 32 or 36 hole hubs, (105 or even Tiagra), I'd guess a pair will come in at about £200 ish.

Speak to your LBS, if they've got anything about them this is something they will be able to provide, or spend a bit more and you get them 'off the peg' with Hope Pro3 hubs from the link I gave back you in post 7. Or even get the Halo Aerorage I pointed you too as well, they have been bombproof under my big old @rse on my commuter so you'll be fine

I went through this rubbish some years back...I bought a daws galaxy tourer 64cm and it's been perfect for me....when i was carrying a 'little extra' it meant i could ride it off without worry...now i ride a bianchi 61cm...still aheavy rider but no problems really.

I have a 36" inside leg and weigh - a lot! I ride a 62cm Trek 2.5 with mixed Shimano touring components. Handbuilt wheels (Alex rims & Novatech hubs - 36 spokes) running on 700x23 tyres - great machine - no problems.
