well evans loss was decathlons gain, they had a 63cm triban 3 in stock so i picked it up today.
first purchase was a new seat post which should arrive in the next few days as evans didnt stock it. currently im having to have the seat post about an inch past the maximum reconmended height.

gonna have my first ride tomorrow on a roadie which should be fun just to see how much it improves my average speed.

wheels will be the next purchase or maybe a saddle as i get the feeling this is one is going to hurt my lardy arse.

i keep hearing charge spoon and fulcrum wheels have popped up several times so they'll probably do.

Before I got out on her I broke my axact cable.
So no idea on speeds and things but was strange to ride at first but by end I was happy on it.

The gears were not tuned either probably should have checked that at decathlon.

Sorry no pics at moment. I'll get round to it.

I'm 6'6 but have a slightly longer leg than you at 38". I've had not problems with a Giant XL size and a size 58 Planet X but I checked the frame specs rather than just the given size.

One thing to beware of with seatposts is the two I have are different lengths but with the same maximum available. The one on the Giant is a 400mm and the one on the Planet X is 350mm. However the Giant's is 27.2mm (which I think is diameter??) and the Planet X is 31.6mm I think. I don't know if this makes a difference to how much you can have showing but both are set to the max.

Be careful! You can damage your seatpost like that, or worse, the frame itself.

In my experience there's only an inch or two of post below the minimum mark, so you could be risking damaging something.

not managed to lose any weight at all but have dropped about 5% body fat and now have just over 27" thighs.

ah ha.... 600 miles on the triban and she got a loose spoke yesterday, tightened it back up on the road.

although they should be fine i shall be looking for a new set sooner rather than later.

I've been as heavy as 18.5stone & only issues ive had is a few broken spokes. I had a Tricross & that was the worst wheels with 3 broken spokes on the rear, but Specialized replaced the back wheel under warranty & never asked about my weight. I've never even looked at max recommended weights when buying a bike. I have a Spesh Allez elite & the original wheels lasted 2 years, no broken spokes, however after about 2 years I noticed the rims cracking slightly near the spoke nipples, so I relaced them with FSA RD60 wheels (which didnt break the bank) & 4 years on they are still ok
Maybe consider going for a touring bike with drops? Surely they are designed for heavier loads, rider + camping/tourer equip?

Keep an eye out on the warranty side of things. Raleigh only rate their road bikes to 19 stone no matter what size of frame they are.
