Hi Guys,

Im looking to order this bag tonight. However, i would like your opinions?

Im looking at the MTX Trunk Bag DXP with panniers which I can get with the supertourist rack for £87

HOWEVER

CRC currently have the same bag but without the quick track system half price at £40. I could then in theory use a cheaper rack as i wouldnt use the MTX system.

Ive just priced up a rack and the setup would come to £60 delivered.

So i guess what im saying is, is the quick release mechanism worth the extra £27?

I would be taking the bag off my bike on every commute . . .My bike is a boardman hybrid comp 2010

thanks

How are you planning on attaching it??

I have these two together

You need to add delivery, but is this not cheaper? I am not sure how the DX is different

£87 sounds a lot if the bag is £40?

I have the road bike version of the trunk bag on the track system seat post bar. Its really handy just sliding it off to take into a cafe or whatever. You need to order the side bars for the panniers seperately I think. (Maybe wrong there my memories terrible) If your taking it off every day at work the quick release track system will save a bit of faffing around everytime. Expensive but very handy and looks like it will last a good while .

Definitely worth it imo, especially if you go for those linked by vickster
No faff, just click a button, slide the bag off and you're away.

ps- You don't need extra side panels if you are getting a proper rack, that's just for the seatpost ones.

The bag you have linked to is the EXP. Im going to get the DXP.
The DXP is bigger and allows for the trunk bag to be extended.

That bag and the super tourist rack comes to £87 delivered from allterraincycles.
At the moment I have no rack at all. If i go for the MTX system then I will get the Super Tourist rack

Ah fair enough. I don't need that much space for commuting - I can actually get everything I need in the top bit, only used one pannier once! Gets very heavy just with that bit filled!

I still don't know how you'd attach the bag securely without the slide on system

Thanks, No im definatly getting a proper rack.
The reason ive chosen the DXP bag is because i think its slightly bigger and ideally on a commute i would not like to use the panniers at all and hopefully get everything I need into the trunk part of the bag.

I hope to be able to carry:
Size 9 shoes
T-Shirt
Trousers
Underwear
wallet / keys / phone

... and maybe a few other small odds and sods etc . . .

But again, i would hopefully like to be able to get it into the trunk part of the bag if possible and the more expensive (£56) version DXP allows you to extend the top part

Can i ask what you get in the top bit of your bag and is it heavy with the top part full or the pannier?

Here is the cheaper bag without the quick track system. Its essentially the same bag but it attaches to a rack with velcro

Yes, heavy. Jeans, top, wallet, phone, ipod, sometimes a D lock

Today I had a D lock, wallet, phone, bag of lettuce, 3 small bananas and a swimming costume, heavy, made bike pretty hard to manouver (random shopping trip lol)

The LBS fitted my rack when I said I was getting that bag, didn't know there was another

The quick track can be a bit fiddly to slide the bag on, but then I am cack handed! If cash is tight, get the other one, less convenient though

hmmm now i dont know either way lol.
At work my bike is always locked in my office so the bag will stay on the bike then.
However, when im at home my bike lives outside so i'll have to take the bag off of a night.

I tend not to do any shopping on the bike but theres always that one time when the panniers will come in handy.

hmmmm...

How much different is the cost? Assume you've scoured the net for the best price? Quidco helps with CRC...assuming it lasts a few years, what's £30 more? I take the back off at the office, even though secure, but need to carry the stuff around. Stays on at home and tbh if locked up outside!

the velcro bag and cheaper rack comes to £60 delivered. The Topeak MTX bag and the matching MTX rack (supertourist) comes to £87 delivered. so £27 difference JUST for the quick release mechanism as the bags are exactly the same apart from that (22.6 Litres)

Im really wondering if it is worth the extra £27 or not......
Can you tell im tight lol
