Were the Beatles right to sack Pete Best? Maybe he wasn't good enough. Maybe he did not have enough charm. I mean joining in a rock band is not an equal opportunities process. Your band mates have to like you or think you have talent. I still can't help thinking they did him wrong in the manner they sacked him. They got Brian Epstein to do it.

Yes, he was not a good drummer at all.

Ringo was OK, but his real mastery was shifting between different timings. He was naturally left handed and at school they used corporal punishment to get him to use his right-hand. As a consequence he was artificially ambidextrous and he reckoned that gave him a feel and ability with timing that was denied to most other drummers.

He wasn't a bad songwriter either when he could be bothered. What Goes On from Rubber Soul is a great country tinged track. Octopus's Garden isn't everyone's cup of tea but is very cleverly written.

He's supposed to be a genuinely really nice bloke too, not like Macca who believes his own hype a bit too much.

It was business, nothing more. What needed to be done was done. They could have given him a cuddle and said "there there", but nothing would have changed.

It was handled as it needed to be.
