Hi,

I have been doing a bit of spannering on my own bikes, as well as checking over some for friends and family for the summer. To be honest, I quite enjoy it. I have the halfords toolkit, chain wear tool, hollowtech bottom bracket tool (just done a bottom bracket).

I have always measured torque by the ammount of "ummpfff" noise I make. But now Im getting into it I would like a proper torque wrench.

Whats the best quality with decent value I can get thats useful for bikes?

Have a look here...

The stuff in post #19 looks like a good deal.

If you do buy one make sure that it goes down to 5 N m's. I bought one that started at 10 so now I have two lol.

This is the one I use

I use spanners all day and always thought there's no real need for a torque wrench, but i;m beginning to change my mind.
Cassette...it states the torque required on the lockring, i always do it by feel. Since come to realise i may have overtightened it in the past because the 11T (or is it 12) is slightly warped
Maybe pulled it in a little too tight.
So next time i took it off, i used less force when i refitted it. Noticed the last week or so i get a rattle when in the last three sprockets. I thought maybe the cable needed a tweak. Took my cassette off today for maz's post...and was surprised to find the lockring too loose. That'll have caused the 'rattle'.

I think i'm going to invest soon, carbon steerer bungs and cassettes. The rest doesnt worry me but i can see its value.

If anyone in the North East wants to torque up their bike they are welcome to call in and use my wrench to do it. They are handy to have but I'm not sure that it's worth buying one unless you like to fiddle.
