Hills and headwinds get you fit.

Descents and tailwinds are your reward for wearing lycra and showing the world the 'true' size of your penis.

I'd gladly hurl abuse as those who introduced farming practices such as removing every last vestige of hedgerow from the fields in the Fens, that would, at least, make the wind more bearable. As it is, there are miles of unbroken soil with nothing to checkl the winds' progress.
Still, as has been said, gets you fit!

'tis all a circle. What comes up, must come down & what pushes you back in one direction, pushes you forward in the other.

Na, hills are the best antidote to wind ime. I never notice the wind round my parents house in Devon. Notice it here where it's fairly flat, unless I'm going up a steep incline which is theoretically into a headwind.

Is it possible for the wind to blow downwards and pin people down to the road? That's the impression I had yesterday on my way home. I'd rather ride in the rain than struggle with headwinds and sidewinds that push me around.

I actually like cycling in windy weather. Obviously not when it gets to silly wind strengths but otherwise it's quite exhilarating.

From a competitive view it's my chance to catch the grimpeurs whose light weight helps them on the hills but avails them nothing into a fierce headwind on the flat:evil:

I have a fantastic tail wind as I head east on the embankment almost every time (anyone else notice this). Very rare that the wind there turns on me.

but

for the last 3-4 miles I have a slow incline (over crap road surfaces) and always a ferocious headwind to contend with.

The thought of travelling through this "valley of despair" (after 15-16 miles riding already) is often enough to put me off taking the bike home at all.

But then, getting home "despite" it always makes me feel pretty smug!!

Tailwinds are there to help you relax ...

Crosswinds are a pain the bloody arse!
Amen, brother. The worst has to be a strong 45 cross to the right.
