By contrast the Olympic plus distance (standard olympic distance with a longer bike loop) of the Mazda London Triathlon is £125 next year and Ironman UK is £330 so it's not completely out of touch with some other large events but a lot of money all the same. I may volunteer at IMUK but certainly won't be entering. Maybe in a few years.

My cousin did it a few years ago and thought it was OK but nothing special, apparently the mud was the worst part. However last year he also did the Sahara Marathon (over 5 days if my memory serves me right) so he is a bit of a tough bugger.

Yeh the distance isn't really the reason to do it, you can go and run a marathon from your front door, I suppose it was the novelty of it that appealed, decided against it now though.
