I think Demi Vollering seems perfectly nice. I'm yet to watch her cafe ride with Matt Stephens, but I'll get on that shortly. If she comes across as lacking in grace after being defeated, I think it's as much about them shoving a mic in her face in the immediate aftermath of the race as it is any anger or disappointment. Emotions are running higher than usual at that point. Sure, you could tell last year she was absolutely sick to have lost it, as she had every right to be because she was easily the strongest. This year she has the weight of being the favourite, as well as the expectation that comes from being the marquee signing for a new team, so being fed up is understandable. To operate at that level you have to have a bit of sore loser personality in you. Some are just much better at hiding it than others in the immediate aftermath of the race.

There's that and there's the characteristic Dutch directness of speech. It's easy to come off as brusque or rude if you're trying to be open, honest and transparent and you're used to a culture that expects that.
