Aye. April will soon trot round.

They never replied to me:sad: But swmbo who registered the same day as been bombarded with emails:angry:

I had even booked time off work special :boxing:

What I did find quite offensive about the application/ registration form when I perused it was:

The route through yorkshire is approx 3 X the length of the route darn sarf

There are only 2 x training sessions in the North of England BUT 6 training sessions in total darn sarf:cursing:

Theres still time, Eileen and myself have rang them up for different info today and the system has been in meltdown since about 8am this morning, not many applications being sent out, or the 30 minute time limit being passed before the applicant gets the message, I was lucky and got my application at 4am.........filled in and sent before 5am at work

Oh right.

Doesn't sound as if it's going very smoothly if their system is in meltdown, but I hope everyone who wants to volunteer gets the chance to do so; a great experience!

I think its got far more people applying than they thought, its not something that will happen very often, so fingers crossed for anyone who has applied and got into the application stage.

I have a growing sense that Yorkshire have bitten off more than they can chew with this one; not much of it seems well thought out - accommodation seems limited if non-existent, costings for Police were not considered, road layouts/closures seem to be limiting options for spectators and now they seem surprised by how many people want to volunteer (and that's just the bits I have picked up on from on here!). The infrastructure does not seem to be there.

Maybe there was good reason that the bid by Edinburgh was supported after all?

I still hope it all goes well and everyone enjoys themselves.

I might pop down for a watch but I'm not enthused by how it's all going so far...

I had a conversation with someone from a UK cycling organisation in a large village in Yorkshire who voiced similar concerns i.e. underestimated the costs, the need to be at certain vantage points two to three days ahead of the event and that anyone hoping to turn up on spec as a spectator will be pretty disappointed as they'll not get anywhere near to the route by car. Furthermore some folk from the village were whinging about all of the extra visitors especially French visitors and that they'd rather the event was held elsewhere. Yep accommodation is at a premium but that can't be held against the route, I sure that there's stages in France which have similar accommodation problems.

The officil's parting shots were that overall it was thought that Yorkshire had done a good job and that there was vague promises of a Classic being held here in the not too distant future. Something that was supported by a news article on regional TV.
