I live in hope that they sort it out.

I see them having to draft in more resources than anticipated; I'm not sure what you mean by a "Classic" but I think you'll find that "the Classics" can't move to Harrogate  Milan San - Remo, for example, might prove problematic...

Would have liked to apply but will be in France for the training sessions and only return for the event. We managed to get tickets for the York Racecourse send off on day 2* and I guess I'll find a spot by the roadside for day 1(by bike of course!). I've a feeling it's going to be a very memorable occasion and the race course is right next door to us.

anyone hoping to turn up on spec as a spectator will be pretty disappointed as they'll not get anywhere near to the route by car. Furthermore some folk from the village were whinging about all of the extra visitors especially French visitors and that they'd rather the event was held elsewhere.

I always watch if the route goes near me in France and it's always difficult to get near good spots by car (I cycle). On the mountain climbs people get there a week or two beforehand! Daresay a few French peeps complain but the overall impression is that they love it le Tour goes anywhere near them. Vive le difference, eh?

* yup the system was in meltdown but somehow we managed it! Well oversubscribed though.

Theres still time, Eileen and myself have rang them up for different info today and the system has been in meltdown since about 8am this morning, not many applications being sent out, or the 30 minute time limit being passed before the applicant gets the message, I was lucky and got my application at 4am.........filled in and sent before 5am at work

TBH I have never heard a dicky bird despite filling the original forms in a couple of times, the first being nearly 12 months ago. SWMBO as had regular emails and updates. Never mind still go watch

@Marmion Being the center of the universe, Yorkshire is quite capable of hosting a piddling little cycle race. Didn't tha no lad, it'll be reeeeet. Mind you I think they will need all the volunteers they can get, atm a flag marshal will be required every 3 yards to mark the potholes Craters.

Well a big race then. Doing a classic by proxy would be an innovative approach tho but.

They'll have to make it up then, no more riding on the coat-tails of someone else next time.

As @Flying_Monkey highlighted in ProRace forum: "Britain has only 3 day races that are part of the UCI Europe Tour - the Ride London Classic (1.HC), the Rutland-Melton (1.2), and new for this year, I am very pleased to say, my old club's race, the Beaumont Trophy (1.2), in Northumberland."

So whatever the official may or may not have said, he's likely to have been saying it for effect.

To be honest I couldn't give a toss. I can't even be bothered to haul my ass eight miles over to Otley for their nocturns.

I happened to be in Pocklington the other year when the Tour of Britain passed through it was an underwhelming moment.

One day I might be gripped by enthusiasm and go over to the velodrome in Manchester and see some indoor races from start to finish. A flash of the peleton didn't do it for me in Pock.

To be honest I couldn't give a toss.

I also think this might be the tune of Yorkshire post-Grand Depart day.

Wouldn't it be easier and need fewer marshalls if they marked the bits were there weren't any craters? On Saturday I noticed a smooth strip of tarmac going half way across one lane for over 200 metres. I could do that bit if they want.

Anyway, I am sure it'll be a great event and the rest of the UK will look on in awe and even more envy than with which they usually regard Yorkshire.
