Exeter to Exmouth....... must be going some long way round then, it's only 11 miles or so :-)

Will be a fine spectacle to see these guys riding some of roads I ride on a daily basis! :-)

ToB and they don't get north of Peebles...wimps.

At least they make it north of the Border this year! Last year it was the Tour of England and a bit of Wales, if I remember correctly (goes off to check ...)

Yes indeed. Great news for cycling in Devon. I knew that Somerset were not going to host the ToB this year, so I'm glad Devon has taken up the slack - Somerset's loss is Devon's gain. I'll also look forward to seeing them fly along roads familiar to me - there are some very quick sections there - I've done nearly all of them, though must do the Haytor climb sometime. It's a shame they aren't doing the Prostate Cancer Charity Tour Ride in Devon this year, but I will probably do the route solo or with a friend or two sometime over the Summer anyway.

I quite like the idea of riding the Devon tour route, distance is a bit of a concern though, I've just chickened out of the Force Charity Century Cycle 100 miler and plumped for the 55 as I think a 100 that goes over the top of Exmoor (twice) might be a bit much for a first 100.

It certainly won't be an easy ride - I'm guessing there'll be getting on for 10,000ft of climbing, including some long pulls. I'll try to find that out a bit more precisely once I know what the exact route is. I don't think you'd want to try this if you haven't got a good 100 miles confidently in your legs.

Yeah, I'm doing the 100-mile Force ride - perhaps you should be brave and do it next year - it actually only goes up onto Exmoor once and comes back down - the profile isn't too scary. Not nearly as taxing as the ToB route.

for those Sweaties wingeing that Tour doesn't spend long enough in Sweaty land- I suggest you speak to your local councils. If they do not bid for the Tour or provide the necessary support it is not going to go there.

They must be expecting a load of wimpy lightweights to ride this year.

Otherwise they'd come through Sheffield and her accompanying, endless, chuffin hills!!

I didn't know they had to bid? That's interesting. I thought it was down to the race organisers, sponsors, and logisitics of coverage etc. Does that mean the local councils are using tax payers money to bid for the tour to be routed through thier borough?
