Mara Roldan broke her femur in the crash today. Poor kid! Apparently Lizzie Deignan stayed with her, holding her hand until she got looked after.

So many riders seem to have wonderful days and then crash out the next day. Longo Borghini and Neidermeyer last year, Lecourt and Roldan this week.

I’d just read the same. Both Deignan and Wiebes gave up their races to stay with fallen riders. I hope Mara and all the other casualties recover fully.

Pic of CUL on insta after the stage absolutely gutted! She’s not had a great season and I think it’s weighing on her!

She had a pretty miserable time last season as well

@13 rider - You would think I could identify my own child  or that he'd know where he was :okay: . Actual son no. 2 in University of Nottingham shorts and a shower jacket at 20km to go, not 24km to go:

Here me thinking eh that’s odd a man in the women’s race, maybe it’s an odd junior thing, then I clicked he is standing by the side of road. I made it onto Fridays edition, just as they go past the fox covert pub after the 1st feed/hydration.

I was lower down the hill the police stopped the cars ( 2nd pass) coming down at the bottom. A problem being a Guest carrying car took the position of blocking off a road but it left long before the last riders leaving the road open.

Marshalling was a problem on Friday too. They didn’t have enough police motorcycles and outriders to block off the smaller side roads so a few cars came through after the lead car but before the race leaders and after the convoy but before the broom wagon.

A Female rider is able to ride in the Open (men's) category, and they ride one category down from their current licence.

Under 16's can get permission to ride as an adult once they score 50 points in a year. Juniors ride but are limited to 120km maximum distance when they're a first year Junior.

There are highlights on the Youtube Lloyds Tour of Brtain channel along with claimed full length replays
Stage 1 is however the same as iPlayer skipping from the start to beyond Pickering.
Stage 2 is in full if you want to see the delights of Teeside as well an early crash.

~16Km left of today's stage, just tuned in.

Wollaston has taken all bonus seconds, so all level with Ferguson right now on GC.

Class act from both of them.

Edit: just seen Deignan was awarded the combativity prize for it. Excellent decision. Sometimes cycling's archaic, fluid and creative application of "rules" actually works the right way.

Well done both, they were realistically out of the GC but nice to see the best side of human nature.
