If you are doing this ride in one day, then you don't need a beefy D-lock as some people have suggested imo. However the Abus is well made and a decent lock will last years so it maybe a worth while investment for the future.

In terms of this ride though, a coil lock should do the trick, anything that will deter a thief. The probablility of you stopping at a cafe for some munch and some well tooled pro thief trying to steal your bike is very low imo.

Needless to say the usual rules apply as well, keep your bike where you can see. lock it to something solid etc, etc.

Time machine needed to move that post to last week BEFORE the ride was done.

OP, I meant to ask, what was the reason for the timing of the spin? As I said before, I like it. But was just curious as to the motivation of other strange folks like me...

Friz,

What do you mean? Why I did it? My parents live in East Lancashire and also there was a Friday Night Ride to the Coast from Manchester.

If you mean why do it in one day, why not?

If you mean timings for leaving London etc I thought it would be easier to cross London and the south in the middle of the night leaving me all day to get lost in the Peak District (it happened!)

I like that kinda reasoning. We really need more of this. Nice one.
