Touring on My Road Bike

Fact is, you can tour on anything.

When I posted this photo, taken in Lerwick, on the CTC forum, I got a pm saying he'd met the same bike on its way back from a Streatham to Portugal and back tour (an elderly male rider, apparently - I found the bike when I went to get mine to catch the ferry, and never saw the owner).

Impressive. Claud Butler with shelving as "pannier" supports and the giant catch-all basket for the win!

I like the briefcase bar bag and he has also managed to cram a helmet on as well.

I met a guy on the transam riding unsupported on a carbon road bike. All he had with him was tiny one man ten/bivvy, an ultra light sleep bag and the clothes he wore on the bike. He had both tent and sleep bag attached to his back on some kind of rucksac like strapping. He must have froze his arse off at night in places, and I would hazard a guess that his motel bill was bigger than mine. But he wanted to be fast...something to do with a new girlfriend in Virginia!

Crazy, if you hotel it then fair enough, but still!

Its only crazy if you have never tried or tough enough to hack it. Not my cup of tea but it obviously works for someone.
