Hi guys,

Do you reckon it's safe to go on a camping tour on an MTb with the top of the rack secured to the stays by p clips, there are proper (but unthreaded) points by the drop outs.

We're doing a week in France, really relaxed (20 miles a day) and its my mates gfs bike so we will probably be all macho and carry the heavy stuff...

Is this what you mean by p-clips? If so I'd take plenty of spare clips. Ready for any failing.
How much weight are you going to put on the rack? I'd risk it :becool:. Check your clips every stop though.

It's fine. Put some old inner tube or similar around the frame and use good sized p clips. Worked fine for me, no problem. Don't sit on the rack, of course, but other than that, it'll be fine.

I had a similar problem (search my threads for answers!). I found a seatpost clamp at Halfords that had fixing points for pannier on it.

Decent racks, until very recently came with p-clips as part of the installation kit for bikes without top eyes. I'd be more worried about the unthreaded holes at the drop-out.

I use the top one as my seatpost clamps at the front rather than the back of the tube. It was only £6 and at that price, it's worth buying two so you have a spare... plus a few spare p-clips just in case. They weigh and cost bugger all so better safe than sorry.

I've used p-clips and what Monty links to. Never had a problem with either. Cheap racks on the other hand or cheap wheels........

Oh aye?

I was thinking to put a short bolt through with a nylock nut and washers like rollinstok said, is that a bad shout?

Those seat post clamp things look like a cool shout will compare them to her bike and sort out a plan
