I know we are a little way off (thank God!) from Winter but I wondered if any of you commuted along towpaths during Winter?
I'm thinking of doing it but the towpath along the River Lea has no lighting so wondered if:
A. Anyone has any tips
B. What front lights you use/would recommend
It's about a 50 minute ride along the towpath if that helps.
Thanks.

yup, 90% of my commute is along towpath.

Bright Bright lights front and rear - I use two of these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Cree-XM...688?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item259bc698d8

full length mudguards are usually a good idea too.
Waterproof trousers are a must for me - I got some oxford motorcycle ones but they work just fine for winter towpath commutes.

Apart from take it nice and easy (don't bomb it along), Stay dry as you can and warm as you can - have nothing else to add.

Learn where the access points are - people can appear suddenly so best to slow down.

Assume all dogs are trying to make you crash or want you to have an early bath - be careful around them, slow down.

Geese peck - slow down.

Keep an eye out for glass and get robust tyres - maybe Marathon +.

When riding at night, a light with a cut off is best, if not angle the beam down and don't have it on the billion lumens setting.

If someone has a mechanical, see if you can help.

Oh, slow down.
