Was that the same programme with the dolt who drove into the back of a van? (During the motorbike rally section).

didn't stay to see the outcome, but I assume that driver was done for careless driving at the very least, yes?

interesting - I've been corresponding with the Chief Inspector of Brighton's police force about the 2010 and 2011 Martlets rides and I could not possibly have wished for more consideration. The police in Brighton have no problem with cyclists. This man has only himself to blame

I wonder if he was playing up to the camera. Once you get rolling on a particular course of action especially with a few drinks inside you it's difficult to reverse and even though you know you're wrong you can't help yourself as vanity overides the logical course of action. He just wanted to get home with no fuss and even though he was technically in the wrong couldn't bring himself to admit it in front of the cameras.

His RLJ involved him slowing down as he went through the red light with his view fixed on the junction on green and seeing no traffic eased over as the lights turned green. The other light might well have been on orange and if he regularly cycles that way at that time of night he would know the sequence and timings. It wasn't as though he sailed through the red light without looking.

If it wasn't for the camera filming him he may well have taken the attitude of fair enough, I'm in the wrong. Said sorry officer on taking his admonishment and gone on his way without penalty.

I've just watched the program on BBC I-Player and I agree what a complete nob that guy is, his attitude alone got him into that situation.

have a look at 51.40 into the program and have a gander at the old woman passing on here bike with no lights on either (not that I can see any) must be the norm in Brighton

And the car with no lights as the cyclist was being dealt with, what a great bit of timing that was

Same programme in fact...

I'm not sure about the driver who went into the back of the van. I think that was the result of a van two vehicles ahead slowing suddenly, and the police didn't seem to think she was at fault - the van she hit only just avoided hitting the van that slowed. Anyway, her car was written off, and by the sound of it she'd learned a lesson about having her dog restrained in the back, after it ended up wrapped round the back of her neck.

I dunno about the guy playing up for the camera - he failed to stop when first spoken to, and that would be before the camera was obvious. I think he was just a prat.

Riding home this afternoon I did an unofficial survey of my fellow cyclists-
Only saw 4, of which 3 were riding on the pavement.
All 3 were male aged 30-45,and that was during a fairly quite time of day with decent weather.
Last of the 3 was doing easily 15mph,I was doing 17-18 at the time so could judge his speed quite well.

Hope it was a case of leaving her to live and learn, sometimes it is punishment enough, and not just because she "wasn't at fault".

I went into the back of a car at a roundabout a year ago, the car in front of them stalled randomly on approach. First ever car accident, but it was fundamentally my fault as I didn't stop in time. It can make you think a little about whether you're getting a little too over confident behind the wheel at times.

Wasn't it her first time on a motorway? Hell of a learning curve.
