I once parked over half a mile away, public highway, very wide road, not causing anyone an issue. Local resident came out and photographed car, posted a letter on window, and sent off to NHS...FFS.

Hospitals are a nightmare fossyant. If you parked legally near a hospital - the local resident can go and ***k themselves, surely?

If you parked illegally - then you were in the wrong.

If you parked legally, but irritated a NIMBY person who didn't think you should park near them, you could take it up with the police. The PSCO in our road has been proactive in clarifying and settling idiots' arguments that they should have a right to park directly outside their houses (they don't here).

The resident writing to the NHS implies they were trying it on - if you were parked illegally they would have phoned the police.

I get to the hospital about 30 mins early now, just to find a space. I'd ride, but the bike would be gone, and would look fishy turning up to a rehab physio appointment in full roadie kit (might think I'd escaped).

Can't believe you're ignoring the N+1 rule. Get a Brompton, problem sorted.

I have only ever received two parking fines. The first, I paid immediately because it was my fault. The second I disputed because I had displayed one of those scratch-off visitor cards.

I do see people park in some ridiculous locations and nobody seems to bat an eyelid. Cars parked on pavements outside schools a particular bugbear. But for some reason those get ignored whilst people like the OP get fined.

They can write off and complain, that is after all what people do about all manner of things - schools, colleges, universities etc. You don't necessarily have to listen to them though it is just that some of these bodies entertain such complaints.
