Does anyone listen out for traffic reports to determine where there are traffic hold ups, and then plan your route to pass through these hold ups; because you can sail past so many stationary vehicles?!?:thumbsup:

+1 ...and there is only one route...well, unless I fancy doing about double the distance

Oh. I mix my route up every so often for exactly that reason - so that I don't fall into automatic pilot on the same route every time. I'm lucky though, there are many different variants to my commute, many that don't alter the overall distance materially.

When I'm back after UNI exams I might change it a bit. I can go down quite country lanes for the most part I think....it just adds a bit of distance (which doesn't really matter ). Maybe in the morning I'll go the shorter way though

In the winter I usually take the same route (however now I've got my IQ Cyo / hub dynamo I might start taking to the lanes even in the winter if it isn't likely to be icy). In the summer I've got several options, the shortest route is most likely to feature a traffic jam- although only when there's a problem with the motorway. I'm heading north in the morning when everyone else is heading southwards into London.

Sometimes, on the way home, 'll take one of the busy routes into town when there's late-night shopping just so I can filter all the way down.
