Trail centres with hire bikes within travelling distance of Stockton / Middlesborough area?

We have a reason that means for at least a month we have no means to go to a local (cumbrian) trail centre with our son. He is getting keen on MTB and has a FS MTB (decent one secondhand) on trails made in local woods by thee local kids over the years complete with jumps. We are planning once a month to go mountain biking with him in the future. We have to leave a dog with someone to look after (not possible for a month) so we are stuck for awhile. We are visiting relatives in the NE so there is a possibility there. We have not found anywhere.

We will have our sons bike in the car (got the racks but not the roof bars or towbar on our new car yet). I would have to hire anyway as I am not much of a mountain biker (only hired or taken a gravelish bike on green, blue and even red runs when taking it easy). My partner has an old MTB with road wheels and rack on.We are going to hire for the beginning hence we need a bike centre with bike hire (decent place with well maintained and decent bikes).

So does anyone know where there are kind of destination bike centres for MTBing near Stockton / Middesborough area?#

Googling it seems that the Dales Bike Centre is a shop / hire place near Reeth (about an hour away). This I think is not a centre with trails but a hire place where there are a decent number of bridlepaths and tracks to ride on. Whilst the bike trail centre is our initial intention to ride at we do intend to move onto routes in the wider Lakes and Cumbrian area. BTW we live in Cumbria and intend to ride Grizedale and Whinnlatter initially once a month then go from there. Who knows I might even buy another bike and get a hardtail MTB used of course at some point if we get into it as a family. We are at the beginning of this journey but we have ridden at GRizedale, Whinlatter, Gisburn and some 7 stanes in the past. It is fun but we are still at the novelty stage and it could all end up being dropped. So we need to make a few good, early experiences for us all. That needs your help with locations in the area mentioned. We know the Lakes places and when that is possible it will be our main area for riding. The NE is a temporary (or irregular) location for riding but we need to find somewhere.

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions that might come.

Hamsterley Forest is a perfect family setting. There is also the Sutton bank centre, me assuming they also do hire.
Guisborough Forest is local and might just be fine if a bike shop in the town does hire.

If visiting the extremely large Hamsterley Forest, The free Locomotion, Shildon is alway worth a visit, it being near enough on the route.

IIRC The Hamsterley Red route is a figure of 8, I got lost the first time around lol.

Where abouts in boro?

There is Wynyard Woodland Park which connects to Castle Eden walkway in Stockton/Billingham. It is like a gravel trail.

The paths around the outskirts of Preston Park have a few jumps in but it isn’t a proper trail.

The nearest dedicated centres for trail riding with different grades are Dalby Forest near Whitby or Hamsterly Forest.

There isn’t much by way of offroad trails locally so you’d be best off looking at cycling the walking trails like Captain Cooks monument, commondale moors and kildale etc.

Komoot is a good shout for finding potential rides too. You could do a tour of the coasts. Start at Saltburn and work your way up to Redcar or Hartlepool to Sunderland beaches?
