This is all about Storm Amy, if your making a journey by train today I hope yours went ok.:okay:

I've just finished a journey and had a question, well two really, about travelling assistance as we couldn't work out the answer and it wasn't announced on the train.

If after you'd started your journey, you get told "It's terminating at X Station and there are no trains to your destination today" is the train company obliged to get you to the destination, or just return you home? Or something else like give you a hotel?

Also as we were on the train it was announced "There is now a Do Not Travel warning in place and no assistance is offered if you choose to travel". Well that warning was not in place when we boarded, should assistance still be offered?

I'll probably ask someone at the station next time I'm there, didn't want to pester them today as they all seemed quite busy trying to deal with all the disruption (and luckily my trip was still ok).

FYI The route I was on today is Glasgow > London trains and they are now terminating at Preston, but this applies to any journey really.

Normally yes, they're required to. And that may mean a taxi paid for by the train company.

Yeah I thought so thanks.

As the train we were going to get was now terminating at our destination we got on (it was practically empty as it was not going all the way anymore), but we were wondering about the trains in front of us that started intending to go somewhere and then got terminated early.

I once had a taxi paid for to bypass a line blocked by a broken down train when there wasn't enough time to wait for a later train, but that was only ~6miles. I don't know whether they would have paid for a much longer journey.

Did you end up in Kendal?

Ive just been to Kendal to pick up my son back from Glasgow uni open day.
50 mile round trip!
Bloody hell, I hope he's grateful lol!

No we were Carlisle > Preston so very lucky as the few trains that were running from Glasgow were terminating where were going.

How did he end up in Kendal on the Glasgow train that doesn't go there?

Same once. Except it was a different situation where the rail replacement bus was crashed by the idiot driver and taxis were ordered for all.
