I have been off my bike for over a year due to illness.
I haven't been that long off my bike before. Now I've started cycling again and trying to get my fitness back.
I have the thought that putting time on the bike is more important than putting in the miles at this early stage.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Just get out there and enjoy your cycling and the fitness will improve.
I would say time on the bike is more important, lots of short trips being better than one long trip at the weekend. and don't worry about your speed either.;)

and welcome to the forum:smile:

"Just ride your bike" is the most sensible advice here, but if you must know to satisfy your curiosity, duration @ intensity is the definitive measure of cycling workload.

I cycle (and jog) by time. Unless its a weekend ride where we will do, say a 20 mile ride, following a route map. During the week we have 30 minutes here and 45 minutes there. Jogging is more like 5 minutes here and there as its been a long time!

Don't get hung up on the miles, just enjoy the ride.
