Transferring data to new phone - any recommendations?

Anyone know a good way for this from windows phone to apple?

Step 1 - transfer old data to PC

Step 2 - download files from PC to new phone

Step 3 - have nervous breakdown when file format is not recognised

Well that turned out to be a bit of a non-event...the clever new phone sorted it all out straight off the bat. Sorry to have wasted people's time.
