I've seen a couple of roads that look like they are about to be resurfaced and the road engineers or their lackies have scribbled some kind of secret code on the pavement and the road. Most I can work out but the one that I want to understand is this one which looks like a S/D and an arrow pointing away from a line. These are in several places including Etloe road in the Westbury Park area, and Toronto Road in Horfield.

Any ideas?

Is it an instruction - Summer Days go this way?

Have a read at this article, it'll tell you a lot about the squiggles.

I'm wondering if it is going to be surface dressing, I presume I am going to wait for a while to find out. But if it is surface dressing it will be popping up in several places!

What's a "Road Engineer"?

I hardly think that a Council would employ a degree trained employee to mark out the roads for repair.
