個人的價值,應該看他貢獻了什麼,而不是他取得了什麼

I'm just hoping that it's worksafe.....

I like doing stuff like this. Just had a go at google translate, and got:

Value of the individual should look at what he contributed, rather than what he has achieved

you're so modern!

I tried babelfish and got this.......

Individual value, should look that he has contributed anything, but was not he has obtained anything

Why? By which I mean why post this on the FNRttC blog?

Here's one for you which appeared on a shelf in the fridge at work.

"svp vrijhouden voor kolven"

Try a Dutch to English translation in Babelfish..

In Babelfish I got "svp reserve for cabbages" (svp presumably = s'il vous plait, i.e. nicking a bit of French.

In Google translate, I got "please open for flasks"

In this instance, "kolven" meant "expressed breast milk"!

Does anyone remember the ones from Eric Newby's Hindu Kush phrasebook?

Something like,

My dog is a yellow dog, you're dog is a red dog

My grandfather has a goitre

Top book. Haven't read it in a long time, but a quick google reveals such gems from Newby's book as: 'How long have you had a goitre?', 'I have nine fingers; you have ten', 'A dwarf has come to ask for food' and 'I have an intention to kill you'

Brilliant! Cheers, Fnaar.
I may have to read it again.
