Top book. Haven't read it in a long time, but a quick google reveals such gems from Newby's book as: 'How long have you had a goitre?', 'I have nine fingers; you have ten', 'A dwarf has come to ask for food' and 'I have an intention to kill you'

I met Eric and Wanda Newby in a barbecue restaurant that I was running in Spain years ago. He signed a menu for me, but it was dark, and a felt-tip pen, and it was the end of the evening, so all I got was a scrawl. He had a good evening watching the gypsy flamenco singers though - a lovely guy.
