Transporting bike from Oz

Do any lovely CycleChatters know of a way to get a bike back from Australia because I’m not getting far with my enquiries and hope that the hive-mind can help.

Scenario is that my husband has qualified for the ITU finals in Gold Coast (old fart division) and having found out that there are no bikes left to hire has the only option of shipping his. Going out is fine, the bike can fly with us. Coming back is the issue - we are taking a trip home via Thailand and won’t have our own transport while there. Ideally the bike will go home without us when we leave Australia.

I have looked at DHL and the website recognises we are in the U.K. and doesn’t give an option to get a quote into, rather than out of here. I looked at a dedicated bike courier company who gave a return trip price of £650! Any advice greatly received!

He has emailed a few places in the area who are all booked up, plus one person rang round to see if anyone else had stock but there’s nowt!
He has family over there and they have tried their sources too. The Aussie Facebook thing might be an option - thanks for the suggestion.
