Forum relays can be a really good idea.
I see it used a lot on a Land Rover forum where members would buy and sell around the country and then a relay is set up for moving the heavy stuff, like axles and gearboxes, about. It can take several members and a few days or weeks to get something moved about but it does work.
I'm happy to move stuff about on the Burnley/Manchester route or the Manchester/West Yorkshire direction. Maybe even as far as York and I can then go and visit Arch and go to the railway museum.
I also tend to do the Manchester/Midlands/South East sort of thing but not too often and sometimes at short notice.
Maybe a sticky with 'things that need moving' and 'people available to move stuff' could be posted.
There would need to be an issue with forum, and relay, liability, or lack of though as it should be at your own risk.
I wouldn't want to be liable for any damage to a £10k carbon frame on my cycle rack bouncing about on the M6 for example. I guess old Land Rover axles bouncing about in a Defender are less of an issue in that respect.
