considering one of the above...i was leaning towards the trek but the roubaix is on my radar again, looking for something thats going to take a bit of abuse..now i know both claim to be cobble masters etc, but my issue is the wheels i dont really want to shell out on a new wheelset when i've just spent a couple of grand on the bike. i've heard some trek users complaing about the stock wheels not sure whats on the roubaix tbh...

These 2 bikes are being discussed on another thread so it might be good to jump in on that.

FWIW I bought my bike for £1500 (reduced from £2499) & even though it had very good wheels I sold them & bought what I wanted.

Most bikes have a compromise somewhere.

In the last year I've ridden a Roubaix, a Scott Foil and a Canyon SLX. I wouldn't say the Roubaix was any more 'comfortable' that's the other two, which are 'race' bikes.

Worth considering the Cannondale Synapse too - I've seen some good deals on 2013 Ultegra spec'd versions.

Canyon have also just launched a new bike aimed at the sportive market which is very competitively priced - 1500 squid for Ultegra 6800 with wide rim DT wheels + 25mm conti 4000iis.
