Looking at getting a dual sport 3 gen 5. Has anyone got any experience or views on Treks ThruSkew system.
I’d normally expect a standard Thru axle when disc brakes are involved but Trek have come up with this.
Geometry etc on this bike looks good for what I want but this Thru-Skew business I’m just not sure about!

I had never heard of this so did a very quick Google search. As far as I can see it's simply that an Allen key is needed to remove/install the wheel. If so don't worry about it. The wheels on my Kinesis are the same. I've had the bike 3 - 4 years without any problems. I do carry a 6mm Allen key in my tool kit.

I have friends with the same system. It's not an issue.

It is basically one of those security skews used on a quick release wheel to prevent theft of the wheels in cities.

If you plan to upgrade the wheels at a later date you may have frame compability issues as it isn’t a thru axle, these are usually a wider diameter.

Thanks for the replies. Good to hear others have used it with no issues.
The rest of the bikes specs really tick a lot of boxes for me. It’s not a bike I’ll be fitting upgrades to other than pedals, saddles, and maybe grips.
