Hi All

I am looking at getting my first road bike, been on MTB for ages but been doing 90% of my miles on the roads for the last 2 years so i think its time to get myself a road bike bike, budget wise i am looking at 500 - 600 tops.
at the moment, the Trek 1.2 and the cube peleton compact (both 2013) are looking favourable, any thoughts on these two bikes ?
I will be lumping a pack on my back for work commutes so this is also a factor but it will also be used for leisure without the the back pack.
Appreaciate any advice given.

Cheers
Kev

Cube is better than the Trek imho

If not too heavy, you could get a beam rack and pannier to save the back. Just take off for leisure rides. A fixed rack is better but more weight

I dont mind the rucksack on the back, its not that heavy, only has my lunch, waterproof jacket and work clothes/shoes on my commutes so i can handle it no probs. Its a real ball ache looking due to so many options and it being my first bike.

+1 for the Cube. I bought the Cube Peleton Pro in September when the end of season sales started, and am really pleased with the way it rides, comfort etc. Be aware that the sizing is 'odd'. I would normally expect to ride a 56cm, but the Cube I bought is a 58cm.

Exactly what @CRVFR said. I normally ride a 54cm and went for a 56cm Cube and it fits perfectly.

Thanks guys, i have sat on the cube and its a 58 i need being 6ft. At the moment the cube is my favourite but just wanted to throw this out here to see if any (more knowledgeable) cyclists than me had any differnt thoughts.

I got the Trek 1.2 on C2W this year, only managed about 350 miles on it so far of which only 250 are on road miles, the rest on a trainer. I like it, but then I didn't have the choice of other manufacturers due to the way our C2W works. Other than fitting a shorter stem I've found it really quite comfy, nicely put together and quite nice to look at.

Double check your size for the Cube mate.
I am 6ft dead on & have sat on several Cube bikes but most, inc the cycling press say that Cube frames come up a bit on small side.
I find the 58 perfect though with a 33' inseam.

Ste. The guy in cycle surgery mentioned the cube being slightly smaller, will be nipping down there tonight / tomorrow to double check though.
