People are crazy. Buy the bike you like. Add it to the household insurance. If it gets stolen, claim.

This doesn't mean use a cheapo lock, but buy a lovely bike, two good locks, and ride it lots. It may never get stolen. If it does, you're insured against that.

Don't ride around on something you like instead of love, as it MAY get stolen at some point. Life is short.

Fair play. Take out bike insurance maybe (no idea on cost but it can't be huge).

Or, put away £25 or more a month into a savings account. If the bike gets stolen, you're covered to an extent.

any new bike is an attractive target to theives. buy the Triban 3. cheaper on the wallet to buy and more money for better locks. also factor in some decent hoops + tyres in six months time for a fantastic bike (i have one)
for £600 you will have a very sweet ride with a decent silver standard d lock and cable

If you have the money, I'd pick the Ribble over the Triban. You can spec it nicely and I think it's a better looking machine.

Not only theft, also fire, flood... but it's not obligatory, certainly wouldn't want to leave a bike uninsured anywhere. Insuring a bike as part of contents insurance is usually much cheaper than bike specific insurance

There are criminals everywhere, higher population density in London means higher likelihood IMO

do you live in london all places in london arent bad plus if use a good lock its less likely for it to get stolen

Yes, indeed, I live in a London borough

Was reading today that burglary rates have doubled in London since the summer

Use two good locks and you should be ok. You'd have an excess on a claim anyhow, so may not be worth it on a £300 bike

Im planning to get a bike in 2 months I want to get the triban 3 but not sure however i have seen the ribble bike which seem specs wise really good but i don't want to own a £700 bike if im gonna be locking it up a lot btw i have tried out the triban 3 in the decathlon store And i want to get a new bike i don't want to go 2nd hand

Going back to your original question I can say (having purchased a Triban 3 a few weeks back) spend the £299.99 at Decathlon and get the Triban 3, you won't be disappointed. I ride quite an expensive carbon blingy type bike and got fed up of cleaning it after riding on the damp, gritty, muddy lanes round Cheshire so wanted a winter bike. The Triban 3 is truly amazing for the money, very comfortable and despite the extra 4.5 kilos it carries compared to my best bike quite responsive. You could spend £600 on a Specialized or Trek (without carbon fork) for pretty much the same spec bike, don't! Buy the Triban. Best £299.99 I've ever spent. Oh and i got a £6.00 voucher emailed to me from decathlon following the purchase as well, bonus! (And the guys in Decathlon (Stockport) did a good job of putting it together).
