Triban 5 gear clicking noise

Hi all

Went out on a 32mile ride half way round I noticed that when I was in the 1st gear ring of 3 on the front of the gears every time the chain does a full cycle it clicks.
If I move onto the 2nd or 3rd ring the click stops.

I've cleaned the bike down and re oiled the chain, the noise is still there.

The noise appears to be coming from the bottom.

Anyone have any ideas?

Are you referring to the largest chainring when you say 1st gear ring?
I would hazard a guess that the quicklink could be catching the front derailleur just enough for it to catch at that point and that one only - otherwise double check you don't have a broken link on the chain which has yet to snap... (or something caught in the chain).

Why would the noise stop on 2nd and 3rd ring?

best guess if it is that. noise would stop simply because of the chain line. it would simply be held that little bit further away from the front derailleur because triples tend to be a compromise when it comes to chain line. do in the front large ring and a nine speed cassette you would typically only use the top (in this case outer smaller rings) say 5 rings, on the middle front you aim for the middle 5 and the smallest chairing would use the larger rings on the cassette. also I had a triban 3 that did something similar when I first got it and I ended up moving the front derailleur very slightly around to deal with the issue but mine was catching quite a bit more than just 1 link.

can you confirm that it is absolutely the chain rather than say your pedal? a bike stand or watching the chain when you rotate the pedals backwards would probably be the easiest way of checking.

Every time the chain does a full cycle, or every time the crank does a full revolution? I had an annoying click that turned out to be merely the gear cable hitting the crankarm.

Guys bike all fixed, thanks for your help, you pointed me in the right direction, some how my gear cable was rubbing my peddles as they went round, I failed to notice this until tonight after really looking for 5 mins.

Borrowed a chain checker and chain is good.
