Trike fettling!

Just cycled home from Norfolk to Essex on a lovely sunny day.

When I got home Uncle James was servicing his trike and so he had a look at mine for me. The chain was horrendous, full of sand from our ill-advised off-roading session near Dunwich. So he set out to clean it for me, using some old Red Diesel from the boat (which is now Completely Black And Sandy Diesel).

And here he is, being a very helpful chap (and is being awarded a chicken and mushroom pie for dinner with my grateful thanks):

Taking the chains off these beasties is a pain as you have to thread the chain back through the chain tubes.

He used a convenient inspection cover in our back garden to scrub the chain with diesel. I imagine this will now be slippery for the next decade, might give the dog a surprise when she runs over it!

This is just to prove to Ianrauk and Fossyant that I do, very occasionally, do some bike fettling. Even if it wasn't me doing it (I stood around helpfully and handed him pieces of kitchen towel where necessary).

Ian's posted a picture of I scream - just the thing on a hot day. Surprising what a couple of new bikes can do for a man - turning from an amiable, easy-going Man of Kent into a shiny fixated terrorist, casting distainful looks hither and thither...

He better not be casting disdainful looks at my shiny chain! Not after James worked so hard on cleaning it.

The chicken & white wine pie was lovely so he thinks it was worth the effort.
