Just had a quick peek at the tripadvisor listings for restaurants in Leicester. I know many of the restaurants listed in the top 20 and the ranking bears no relation to their real reputation, with several having very obvious fake reviews boosting their rating. That and Tripadvisor now selling holidays, I would suggest that it is now worthless as a source of information.

Tripadvisor is the most hateful review website that has graced the internet ,if you feel you don't get your own way threaten to put it on TA ,what a load of dump, and yes we deal with this small minded petty ness of people venting on a regular bases,it's so amazing how peoples expectations vary, for some it's a 5 star review others it's the end of the world ,terrible no stars....,there has been programes looking at the so called experts,by all means be constructive but avoid being damaging

Take it with a pinch of salt, ignore the 5 star and 1 star reviews and see what the average comments are like.
I've always tken the 'ignore the top and the bottom' approach, and yes there have always been fake reviews, but now some ratings are entirely ficticious.

Anyone can post fake reviews about places they've never been. Yelp is no different. Some people even get paid to make false reviews. Good & bad!

Don't quote me on this, but it is said that 1 in 3 reviews are fake.

I take issue with the word 'now' in the thread title - Trip Advisor has always been meaningless.

The only way it could mean something is if all the hotels were reviewed using the same criteria by the same person, or people, trained to do the job.

Trip Advisor is quite the reverse, the provenance of the content is almost entirely unknown, so it has no value apart from entertainment (for some).
