Any recommendations for normal looking trousers to cycle in? I think my usual jeans would be unpleasant to wear if damp, but I don’t want to wear shorts or Lycra. I’m mainly using the bicycle for trips around our village (in the UK - I get the impression the forum is international) and maybe further away when I my confidence and fitness improves 🤞

I’m riding a 2017 Dawes Ambassador Heritage
Thanks

Lightweight walking trousers seem to be the best compromise; I'm currently using Mountain Warehouse jobs which do the job but I'm not overly keen thanks to velcro pockets and failing stitching / zips after a couple of years.

I'm all for throwing money at a better pair but hate buying trousers and unless you can try them on fit seems like a total lottery.

I looked at some Endura Humvee trousers recently (aimed at general / MTB riding I think) however didn't like the lack of thigh pockets and am on the fence a bit about the brand as my Endura-made Brompton waterproof didn't stay waterproof for very long..

That said given what you're riding you might have no other option than tweed breeches..

You might find a sarong quite liberating and refreshing.
Thermal Y fronts are handy once there is snow on the ground.

Seriously +1 for walking trousers. Mountain Warehouse are good.
Craghoppers, make some nice smart trousers that have a bit of stretch to them, nice if someone else is paying. Have some sort of lifetime guarantee thing. I'll believe it when it happens

just been looking

so far not found any that have different leg length - which is always a problem when I look at "sports" clothing

they don;t seem to realises that men come in different sizes and different leg lenths!

if I tried to use some of them I would end up with the leg of the trousers in the chain!

and no - I'm not using any with hoops on the bottom - short legs and things like that look stupid and my wife wouldn;t let me out o fthe house with them!!
(quite rightly!)

all this is not too bad 0 try shopping for clothes for a woman who is 4 foot 11!!!!!
(one inch shorter and she would officially be a dwarf - and yes I looked that up myself)

Jeans have thick seams and dont dry out.
Polycotton hiking trousers are best. I use the cheap ones from Go Outdoors ( quality getting worse every year) or some smarter ones from Rohan. The popular Craghoppers Kiwi cargo pants are a bit wide in the leg.

I wear these for pretty much everything including cycling. Thin, stretchy, dry out quickly if you're caught in a shower, easy wash etc.
Mind you, I generally ride recumbents these days but I used to wear something similar when I rode uprights. A way to go cycling without looking like a stereotypical cyclist. Various colours available, and relatively cheap. Narrow enough at the ankle not to need bike clips. Also available in regular fit.
