One bloke at my club always takes a large doner with him on big rides, he has to chop it in two though and puts half in one jersey pocket and half in the other.

Do you remember Jade Goody running the Marathon and giggling about how she had done no training and had lived on Curries for the previous week.

She was carried off in an Ambulance at 20 miles

You might be ok, but if you think riding for at least 6 hours is easy then i'm very impressed, and you must be naturally athletically gifted. Good luck to you.

100 miles is a long way - I've just signed up for the Manchester 100 in September, but I've got years of riding behind me.

You need to seriously think about food. No sugary rubbish - oats, oat bars, proper hydrating drinks (not lucozade) bananas, pasta etc.

Get reading up on sports nutrition now - mars bars are good for about 10 miles then you blood sugar will crash as the insulin kicks in.

What's your longest ride to date ?

You must certainly take in food and drink on a regular basis over that distance. What you take is down to personal preference, but after only five weeks you won't have any! The sports gels, bars etc. are all designed to replenish carbohydrates in a form easily stored in your pocket, but if you are going to stop at cafes and suchlike, you could get a boost from suitable food. Don't go and eat lots of bacon and eggs though, you won't last another ten miles!

100 miles is a long way, personally I don't think I could carry enough water to do it but so much depends on the weather on the day. If I could refill along the way then maybe but I certainly wouldn't be aiming to 'win' which is where all these gels etc come into it. A big solid pasta meal before may help and domtyler's doner along the way along with more water. Afterwards? who cares? you'll be too knackered to eat anyway!

You'll be fine then. I did the TDF cyclosportive last year having done about that.

Eat normally. Have some porridge and malt loaf in the morning before the ride. try to drink at least 500ml of water per hour, and eat a gel every hour and you'll be reet
