Trying to find out brand of cycle

About 3 years ago I bought an old aluminium framed mountain bike on Ebay, and I would like to know what brand it possibly is. There were no brand stickers on it, it was lacquered aluminium hardtail frame, most of the components on it were Tioga, and the frame number starts with letters TA, is it possibly a Tioga bike?

I don't think Tioga ever made bikes - they were only ever a component company. On the strength of the info you have provided, I'm going to guess that the bike could quite literally be anything.

I think it is one of the early Marins by the sound of it although Trek did something very similar in the mid 90s. Having said that, the Tioga finishing kit could be a red herring and it may actually have had those parts swapped on to a Scott frame. Can you give a bit more detail about the components like shifters and wheels and that may help to narrow down the retailer and the date it was purchased..........
